5th grade field trip to Minute maid park

Finally after a years worth of hard work we are able to take a field trip.  Our 5th grade class got to go to Minute Maid Park and Discovery Green.  Discovery Green is this really great little park right near Minute Maid, and it’s theme is “green” as in recycling, solar energy, and whatnot.  We went to Discovery Green first and the students got to play around in the park, running, and jumping, and eventually playing in their interactive fountains.  We all ate lunch their, and then headed over to Minute Maid.
We received a tour of the park, where we were able to sit in the dugouts, and in the press box, but were under no circumstances able to touch the grass.  It’s sacred ground apparently.  John was able to go as a chaperone, and had his own group of guys to look after all day.  I enjoyed having him along.     We were really grateful to happen too because we were short on adult chaperones.
When I was in school it seemed like we were taking field trips several times a year.  We went to the buttercrust bread factory, the museum of science and history, the christmas tree forest, the skating rink for good behavior... and that’s just a few that I can think of off the top of my head.  I wish I could find a way to take my kids on more trips throughout the year.

Strawberry fest

This weekend we decided we needed something fun to do because the last month of school just seems to drag on and on.  Also I really liked the logo.  It’s so cute, a strawberry on safari, looking through binoculars, I mean what is not to love about it!
The festival was held in Pasadena, Texas at their fair grounds.  They had helicopter rides flying people up for a minute, and then back down.  The line was too long through, so we didn’t wait to ride on the helicopter.  No idea what the fee was either.  We walked around trying all the different fair foods.  We also got to see the worlds largest strawberry shortcake!
It was nice to get to go to the fair just John and me, and walk around without running into a single person you know. We love little fairs and festivals, trying all the foods, looking at the crafts, and people watching.

Geocaching Trip with John

After an after church nap on Sunday John decided he wanted to go find some geocaches in the area, and Selah and I decided to go with him.
John planned out a nice trip for us taking us to different areas of town that have some nice trails and parks.   Selah is always up for an adventure, but usually on Sunday afternoons all I want to do is nap, read a book, and do laundry.  This Sunday was a little different because school is getting close to the end and I am getting restless.

A trip to the dog park

Our dog loves to be active.  She gets in these modes where if she doesn’t get to do something active and fun, then she starts hitting us with her paws, until she gets her way.  Well on this weekend we decided to take her to Millie Bush Bark Park to help her let loose her energy.
Selah loves the bark park because not only does she get to socialize with other dogs, but more importantly she also gets to swim.
Today when we took her to the park there were lots of tennis balls just laying yellow and abandoned on the shore of the pond.  John decided to take advantage and toss them into the water and let Selah have her fun, while I took photos of the event.

Happy Cinco De Mayo

John decided to buy a pinata for the teachers at his school to beat out their frustrations.
Hope you enjoyed your 5th of May.
Countdown to summer is 4 and a half weeks.
